6. Plan....Strategise.......Review....

Hi scholars!!!

Now that I had written last time on how to do a literature survey, I am extending the discussion towards further planning and strategising our research work.

To have a good understanding on what to research upon and how to get the idea to the paper form, One needs to setup a 'concrete working plan of action'.

1. Start the day with a list of things to do. Planning on a daily basis is the best way forward.
2. To do things can be to read a research paper or a review paper (make notes while reading, google all unknown words and read the basics from wiki)
3. If needed, one read a related text book or a book chapter to get the real background and the big picture.
4. ALWAYS FOCUS on what you need to build a good foundation of knowledge. Without this, we cannot make sense of the papers.
5. Don't hesitate to come back to read a book chapter whenever you feel so.
6. Finally, set targets on a weekly basis. Say, complete reading a fixed number of papers or do some basic simulations etc.
7. Always, be open to new ideas, new information and new views on research: as I told before, read technical and scientific magazines and journals like IEEE Spectrum, IEEE nanotechnology Mazagine etc. Maybe a new viewpoint by someone can catch your eye and be a turning point in your research career.
8. Ultimately, it is utmost important to review yourself every fortnight or every month. This is necessary as we can see our own past mistakes and correct them. The more we review, the better are the chances to stay on the right track.

In a nutshell, Plan first, make a strategy and execute it. Review and re-plan. Do this till you achieve your target.
