5. Making sense out of the clutter.......the litrature survey

Hi all....its quite some time I put my keyboard and laptop (read pen and paper) to draft my next post.....

Well, I too am re-doing the first steps what I had said here....:)

Along the way, I did an extensive literature survey which helped me in establishing my assumptions....Some of the key points while doing a literature survey are.

1. start from a basic paper...mostly it will be one of the most cited papers in that field
2. do pipelining of ideas from one paper to next paper, i.e., dig into the basic paper and follow the key references and read those papers also.....then only we can make meaning of the lines written in any paper...
3. from the understanding from the basic papers, start to read a recently published paper....
4. try to make connections of the basics with the recent works....
5. while reading a paper, try to read the abstract, introduction and conclusions first. Then decide whether to dig more into it..
6. However, one need to do a few trials, i.e., we'll be reading some papers first, but don't know what it is about or what role it has in our present work. Nevertheless, go on...read.
7. Make notes of what you read and what points interest you most....U need to prepare short notes out of each paper you read...that way, we'll improve our reading as well as writing skills.
REMEMBER: Nevver copy paste same sentences. Write your own.
8. In a nutshell, dive deep into the sea, and it is assured that you'll get the gems at the bottom only....
